my son just got something in the mail. It claimed that checks were insufficient for a payment. I have wondered if it’s just a scam or fraud by someone using his ID ?? Told him to check with his bank and report this to the police.
It’s frightening, to be sure, but scammers use that fear to get people to pay money they do not really owe. Before you pay anything, make sure you owe it, and that they own the debt. (They are required by law to send you a “validation of the debt” by postal mail.) Please do not agree to pay via a pre-card debit card. More about that here: The Way You Should Never Pay a Debt Collector.

DeYoung, along with three co-authors, recently published an article about payday loans on Liberty Street Economics. That’s a blog run by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Another co-author, Donald Morgan, is Assistant Vice President at the New York Fed. The article is entitled “Reframing the Debate About Payday Lending.”
about a year ago very threatening and I initially set up a payment. When I found all the scam info online I have not got that account. I honestly do not remember if I had a payday loan default I do not remember having one. They called again but the guy said he was a fraud investigator for the commonwealth of pa and I would be brought up on all of these bogus sounding charges of fraud bad checks etc from a loan probably from 2008. He also knew I have a misdemeanor record and brought it up to me which is what scared me. When I said I know this is a scam he got furious said he would love to see me get prosecuted. I just said anything and hung up. Googled the phone number he left on vm was 8558870097 and it def seems like a scam. Latest loans from my research are illegal in and even if I did have said the default loan which I do not believe I did the statute of limitations on the debt on the 4 years fraud 2 years. I obviously realize the only fraud is these people but I still can not help but worry about this.
The script and said that it was no longer there because it was now a federal obligation to pay them. My favorite part of the call was to be the ending …. “You’re only 24 right, so you do not know a lot about this or how bad this will affect you in the long run.” I called the Sheriff’s office and District Attorney’s office and filed a claim. Even the sheriff’s office said that they have had people call them because they have had phone calls telling them that there is a

consumers, is going too far. Under the plan it is now considering, lenders would have to make sure that borrowers can repay their loans and cover other living expenses without extensive defaults or reborrowing. These actions would really seem to curtail the possibility of people falling into debt traps with payday lenders. But the industry argues that the rules would be put out of business. And while a self-serving howl of pain is precisely what you would expect from any industry under government fire, this appears, based on the business model, to be true-not only would the regulations eliminate the very loans from which the industry makes its money, but they would also introduce significant new underwriting costs on every loan.

Now that I’ve done a little research, I know that “Anthony Davis” who claims to be an attorney is a scam. See, I’m a legal assistant and have been in collections before and know the law. When this man told me that he would contact my employer to pay my bill, I said, “You have to take me to court, get a judgment and then garnish my salary” To this there was no response. Mr. Davis also told me that I would be “arrested” if I did not pay this debt. He calls incessantly: to my job and my cell phone. Thanks goodness he does not have my home phone number. Then I asked, “To whom do I have this debt?” He replies, “The company I represent owns many, many companies such as Cash Net USA, Speedy Cash. . “However, he did not tell me to whom I owe the debt and the amount of the debt. At first I was scared because I have defaulted on PDLs in the past, but ALL collection practices are governed by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (Federal Trade Commission): http:
When the giant Indian technology-service firm Infosys announced last November that it would open a design and innovation hub in Providence, the company’s president said one of the key reasons he chose Rhode Island was its strong network of higher-education institutions: Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Community College of Rhode Island.

STANDAERT: These payday loans cost borrowers hundreds of dollars for what is marketed as a small loan. And the Center for Responsible Lending has estimated that payday loan costs over $ 3.4 billion per year from low-income consumers stuck in the payday-loan debt trap.
You are correct that you are required to give you the proof of the debt. Do you have a physical address for them? If so, you can write a letter and send it registered mail asking for written proof of the debt. If you are being taken to court, you will receive a “summary and complaint” by postal mail or delivered in person. It is a formal court document, not an email.
I made the stupid mistake, and because I was unemployed, but go back to work. I took out loans but started a new job, so I was not worried about paying them back. Well I lost my job and was unable. I’m looking for work, but I’m now getting calls from people other than I borrowed from. (capitol solutions) They are a scam from what I read. They threaten to have my paperwork sent to the court house, come to my house
After reading everyone’s comments it sounds like I should not give in giving them money for a PDL I never received. The scary thing is what will happen if I do not ignore this. I mean is there a real legitimate way they can have any impact on my credit or SS # or place of employment?

I suppose you are just reporting this and not thinking about sending them money – at least I hope so! If you talk with them, send them a written notice of the debt by mail as required by law. But it sounds like it’s a scam and they will not.
Jessica – It sure sounds like a scam to me. Unfortunately you’re not going to get the money you paid back but hopefully you can stop further withdrawals. To be safe, talk with your bank, explain what happened and find out if you need to take other steps to protect yourself. Now that you’ve paid something they will probably be relentless in their efforts to get more money from you. I recommend you also read my article, 7 Ways to Stop Overseas Debt Collection Scam Calls.
FULMER: If you associate the cost of paying our rent to our local owners, paying our light bill and electrical fees, paying our other fees to local merchants who provide services to us, we operate on a relatively thin margin.

Have a message today from “Courtney” claiming to be a self-employed server and that I am scheduled to be published on the 21st. She said she normally does not call forward but because of the situation she was this time. She said if I was uncomfortable receiving papers for which I did not know about that to contact the originating company. Then she left their number 855-461-0744 and a “case number”. The first thing I did is try to lookup the phone number but no reference to it anywhere on the interwebs? Okay, start to sound fishy. So I call the number, but of course it’s after 7pm Eastern (4: 30p for me) so I get a chance to leave a voicemail. The voicemail greeting was for Jonathan Vadeer?
I received a call yesterday from a law office stating that they were going to have me arrested for fraud and theft for not paying a payday loan. They said that it had been over 21 days since I made a payment and that if I wanted to go out of court that all I needed to do was put $ 385 on a green dot moneypak card by today. I have taken out two payday loans just recently and just had my first payment due on Friday which I paid. The number that they are calling from is 401-648-7325 by Lisa Green. She also said that the money had been deposited in my account and when they tried to pay out they were not able to. They also did not give me information on when the deposit took place and what company the payday loan was through. This sounds like a lot of the other posts that I have read but I do not want to take the chance of being arrested … what do I do ??
I have been receiving phone calls from (949) 829-2391. My son not knowing any better told them where I work and now they are calling my work telling our secretary that they are going to serve me papers at work if I do not call them back within 2 hours. I am a teacher and I can not have them calling me at school. I called the number that was given 10 minutes after he called the school and got a machine … Jordan and Associates … He told the secretary that he had a legal business matter about quantum support services. I had gotten calls last year and they just started again. I have told them I am reporting them to FTC and Better Business Bureau. What can I do to get them to stop calling
